Often, when a fund is formed that memorializes a persons life applicants never have an idea of who the person was or why the fund was established. The Josh Russell Ski Race Scholarship Fund was established to promote the efforts of individuals who wish to be good skiers and good citizens in the ski racing community.

Josh Russell loved the outdoors. Snow became a big part of Josh's life as soon as he was able to walk and play outside. He started lessons at Pats Peak at 4 years old and racing in the Pats Peak Ski Club at 5. Josh loved to turn skis, but also loved the social aspect of the racing programs.

Josh was perhaps never the fastest person in a race. However, he always was prepared for the race with tuned skis and a good attitude. The effort was always 100%. Josh was also the first person to congratulate someone faster and sympathize with someone who didn't finish. He was able to control the competitive nature of his personality.

The organizers of the Fund are seeking people who ski alpine or cross country and share some of Josh's personality traits. Josh never stopped loving the outdoors and his love for skiing. We hope the people who receive scholarships from the Fund will also continue to love the sport as adults.
